We asked 3,124 patients who scheduled a dentist appointment through LocalMed one simple question: Why did you schedule online rather than call the practice?
Unsurprisingly, they had a lot to say. Here’s their thoughts:
They’re just too busy to call your practice.
“I am a second grade teacher - I am super busy on the weekdays. I had time to sit down and look at my schedule on the weekend.”
“I am currently at work and cannot talk on the phone, so being able to schedule appointments, book reservations, order food online is always the most convenient route for me.”
“I work in an open floor plan, so any calls I make can be heard by coworkers. Being able to schedule online lets me avoid announcing to everyone that I'm making a dental appointment.”

“No one picked up at any of the 3 numbers listed during the 2 separate times I tried.”
“I have called 3 times and get voicemail. It's very frustrating.”
“Called the office initially and was on hold for 10+ minutes, so I decided to cut the middleman and get right to business.”
“I called the office earlier and waited on hold for a significant amount of time. After leaving a message, I haven't received a return call.”
By and large, they prefer to scheduling online.
“I like to SEE other choices instead of having someone list them off to me on the phone.”
“Booking an appointment online is successful. In the past, I have struggled with trying to connect with an office or playing phone tag.”
“I could view the appointment book and choose my own appointment instead of having to try to verbally communicate my schedule to a person.”
“I like being able to see all of the options and choose what best works for my schedule rather than trying to keep the dates/times in my head while talking to someone.”
“Calling often included a wait time, I can be interrupted without issue when scheduling online, and it gives me the freedom to consult my personal calendar without wasting someone else's time.”
“Simpler, easier, only takes a minute or so. Unlike calling the office which usually takes 5 minutes or more.”
…Especially the parents.
“It's easier to schedule online with a toddler loudly singing along to the tv and feeding an upset newborn.”
“It was easier, and kids are loud. :) I was sparing your ears!”
“Easier - I have a child you insists on talking on phone when I'm on it.”
