Dr. Bradford Picot (Voted a Top Dentist in Charlotte 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and Best Dentist by Elevate Lifestyle Magazine 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017)
Originally from Shaker Heights, Ohio Dr. Bradford Picot received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a Morehead Scholar (now known as Morehead-Cain) at the university, he was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and also served as a drum major in the marching band. Dr. Picot remained in Chapel Hill to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and later completed a general practice residency at the Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC.
In September of 2009, Dr. Picot opened SouthEnd Dentistry at the age of 28 with the vision of providing the best in dental care, utilizing the latest in technology, in a soothing environment for its guests. In a space that used to serve as a private golf club, Dr. Picot designed and built a dental practice that doesn't seem like a dental office. Countless hours are spent designing and executing customized treatment plans for our patients and restrategizing how to create an even better experience for them.
Dr. Picot takes a comprehensive approach to treatment planning while practicing conservative dentistry. This means that he uses a team of specialists to strategize and design the best treatment plan for all of his patients. Patients are referred to Dr. Picot to treat complex dental issues. His goal is not only to treat a patient's dental disease or main concern but to make sure that the dentistry lasts as long as possible and that the cause of disease is addressed. Dr. Picot's goal is not to "patch up" dental disease but to take a look at the big picture (TMJ, occlusion, orthodontics, gum and bone health, cavities) to assess what can be done in your best interests.
Dr. Picot practices conservative dentistry by coming up with a plan that will preserve as much tooth structure as possible. The more tooth structure that is conserved, the stronger a restoration or tooth will be. This means that he will create a treatment plan using an onlay rather than a crown if he can save more tooth structure. Bonding or composite will be used rather than an onlay if a tooth does not have a great deal of infection. He will address crowding with Invisalign rather than veneers in the right situation. He is highly regarded and respected by his peers for his decisions in designing your treatment plan.
Dr. Picot embraces the philosophy that cosmetic dentistry should not "look like dentistry." Patients rave about their improved and lifelike smiles produced at SouthEnd Dentistry. Friends and loved ones notice a drastic improvement in confidence and overall look without being able to pinpoint that dentistry has been done. It is Dr. Picot's passion and art to design restorations that improve the smile and confidence of his patients without compromising a natural look.
Service has always been a priority for Dr. Picot as he founded the UNC Malawi Dental Project, an annual service project encompassing free dental care and education on HIV/AIDS in Malawi Africa. Philanthropy has extended to donating a student locker room at new UNC School of Dentistry building and establishing the annual CommitMEN Scholarship Fund with fellow alumni at Shaker Heights High School. Devotion to service continues through annual participation in Give Kids a Smile, bus dentistry, and volunteering at various schools, recreation centers and career fairs. In the community, he has served on boards focusing on educating and mentoring underprivileged youths and fundraised for the arts and the American Heart Association.
Memberships include the American Dental Association, National Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, North Carolina Dental Society and Old North State Dental Society. He has also served as an examiner for the NC State Board of Dental Examiners and board member of the Charlotte Dental Society. Dr. Picot takes a great deal of continuing education to stay abreast of the latest in dentistry, clinical techniques and technology. Dr. Picot is an alumnus of the world-renowned Pankey Institute for advanced dental education in Key Biscayne, Florida. His dental study club memberships include the AJ Williams Study Club, OLE Seattle Study Club and South Charlotte Study Club. His passion for dentistry and service has taken him extensively throughout North America, Africa, Australia and Europe.
Outside of the office, Dr. Picot is engaged in the community as a Rotarian and a past board member of the Young Affiliates of the Mint Museum. He has spoken locally and nationally on entrepreneurialism and business. In his free time Dr. Picot enjoys family, fitness, playing the saxophone, chess and travel. Dr. Picot is excited to have you be a part of "the experience!"
